There have been many recent questions regarding Dominion Virginia Power and their commitment to renewable energy. While Dominion’s print ads feature wind turbines and fresh sea grass blowing in the air, it appears that Dominion’s customers in Virginia are getting precisely zero wind power. A little suspicious? Or is it simply a lack of knowledge and understanding of the electric grid and how it works?
A recent article written in rebuttal to the allegations states that renewable energy is and will continue to be an important element of Dominion’s plan to meet the customers needs.
The article states that Dominion Virginia Power has a broad array of renewable facilities in operation, under construction, or in development. While it may appear to be a relatively small portion of generating capacity, these renewable projects have the potential to power more than 400,000 homes.
Dominion also proposed a program to place solar panels on commercial and government buildings in high demand areas in Northern Virginia.
The article also states that Dominion’s West Virginia wind farm does flow to consumers in Northern Virginia and beyond. Dominion Virginia Power worked hard to build a wind farm in Tazewell County. Ironically, it was blocked by opposition that cited environmental concerns among its objections.
Also noteworthy, Dominion Virginia Power’s generation projects will produce 14,200 construction related jobs and $3.3 billion in economic activity for the commonwealth.
The result of Dominion’s investments has resulted in the lowest electricity rates in the Washington metro area, reliable electric service, and jobs and tax revenue for VA.
